1.Welcome
Welcome from Craig,
Greentop’s new Chief Executive. Welcome to this new regular
email bulletin which will be sent every fortnight to all members and close
friends of Greentop. We will use it to circulate news and information, ask
for views and opinions, and generally keep in touch. My first few weeks at
Greentop have been amazing, I look forward to working with you all to
increases Greentop’s successes.
2.Greentop Team Planning
Day
We are holding a team
planning day to bring together trustees, staff, volunteers, performers and
tutors. The day will help us look at roles and
responsibilities, how we all communicate, and how together we will work
towards achieving Greentop’s strategic aims and our purpose of transforming
lives through circus. We've set a provisional date of March 27th for this,
at an external venue, to run all day 9.30am - 4pm. Please can you
reply to let us know if you can make it.
3.“We will clean it, we
will fix it”
We are having a push to
get the Centre cleaner, and are reviewing the cleaning contract. If
the current contractors cannot clean to an adequate standard we will be
looking at alternatives. There are three ways that you can help with this.
First, anyone who would potentially be interested in some cleaning work,
please contact Frances Joel on 0114 244 8828. Second, PLEASE if you use the
centre wash up and tidy away after yourself - we want the cleaner cleaning
the floor NOT our dishes! Third, pop in and help for our Maintenance
Afternoon.
This will be Saturday 14th March
from 1.30pm- 6pm. Painting, sweeping, tidying and fixing will be the order of
the day. A good opportunity to meet other Greentop folk and show what we
can achieve when we all pull together - think of the mice from Bagpuss and
you’re along the right lines - (Click
here for a trip down memory lane!)
4.New Programme
April-December '09
Planning is underway for
our new programme of workshops and courses from April onwards
- with the ambitious goal that we will increase the use of the space up
towards full capacity over the coming year. Notes from the initial
discussion are attached. Please take a minute for a quick look and let
Craig or James know any more ideas.
A particular goal is to get the
centre open for longer hours from 7am until the evening. We’re
interested in forming a rota of people who can open the centre early, and
incentives may be negotiable. Please contact Craig or Frances about this.
5. Centre Timetable Now
Online
Following feedback from
users, James and Frances have now set up an online timetable for all
bookings and activities at Greentop. You can now see, live,
what activities are on, at what times, and when the centre is free for
bookings or private training. The system will be used by staff as they book
(or indeed cancel) sessions so will be up do date at all times.
To see the timetable, you need to log in to our Greentop Google account.
1. Go to www.google.co.uk,
and click ‘sign in’
in the top right hand corner. (Note if you have your own Google account you
may first need to click ‘sign out’)
2. Sign in using email address greentop@greentop.org,
and password greentop1
3. Click ‘more’
at the top of the screen and select Calendar.
4. You will now be able to see all activities and booking at Greentop.
Feedback on how we can improve
this would be much appreciated.
6.Tell Us About It!
We want to hear from
anyone who has a story to tell, maybe its about you or
about someone close to you but if you think it will inspire others to have
a go, to hope for more, to strive to keep trying, then tell us about it. We
want to get the stories on the website and send them to BBC Radio Sheffield
because we are proud of our people and the stories we have to tell.
If you have a story to tell or any
questions about this, email me at james@greentop.org
or call me on 0114 244
8828.
6.Russian Circus Artists
Exchange Programme
Greentop has been negotiating with a circus in Archangel, Russia for some of their artists to come here for a series of 3-day
master-classes (aerial, acrobatics, manipulation etc). The plan is to pay
for their flights and accomodation through the workshop fees and then to
use the rest of the money to fund two of our artists to travel to Russia in return.
But this was all before the
recession! We now need to assess whether this is viable to do this year or
next. So we want to ask all you performers and tutors out there two
questions:
1. Could you afford to do this
training if it was 3 days for £180?
2. When would be the best time of
the year to do this?
Answers on an email or click

Free Child Protection
Training.
Wednesday 11th March. 1.30
- 4pm Greentop is providing a free workshop on
Child Protection for performers and workshop tutors at the Greentop Centre.
This is useful and important best practice training that not only helps to
protect children and vulnerable young adults in your care for which you
have a responsibility, but also helps to protect you from unfounded
allegations. Plus it adds another level of risk assessment awareness when
negotiating work with organisations such as Local Authorities and schools.
