Friends
of Sheffield Youth Circus Rally Round
Sheffield Youth
Circus received a massive shot in the arm from friends and parents
who have pledged their support. After
beginning to cook up fundraising plans over a number of weeks, parents
took the plunge this Tuesday and formed a more formal group, ‘Friends
of the Sheffield Youth Circus’. The group, armed
with a steering group, a set of rules, and a bank account, now plan
to apply for small grants and put on fundraising activities.
One parent said “We’ve
seen how wonderful the effects of youth circus can be, we’ve
got to make sure there’s enough money to keep it running.”
Would you like to be
a Friend of Sheffield Youth Circus? Could you help with our fundraising
activities, including at Peace in the Park in June? If so, please
contact Frances - 0114 244 8828 or email: frances@greentop.org.

all Evening Class Tutors
The system for
depositing the money upstairs through the letter box has changed,
slightly. There is now a Folder in the 3rd drawer down
in the kitchen with all the stuff you need in it. Hopefully it makes
sense, if not let me know. When you are down to the last but one
sheet or envelope let me know and I shall fill the folder again.
Thanks for the help, Frances. frances@greentop.org
Maintenance
Day Success
The Greentop Maintenance
Day went really well! A
big thank you to all the volunteers who came down and donated so
much of their time and effort to getting the centre ship shape!
It was a fun afternoon and everyone chipped in, including youth
circus kids and parents, circus performers, volunteers, staff and
CIP students. Craig Commented, "this was rightly hailed as
the best maintenance day ever!".
After so many people
put in so much effort, it would be great if everyone made an effort
to put things away in their proper place, wash up their cups and
generally take keep the place looking tidy! Thank you!

Tell
Us About It!
Frances tells
us about her upcoming challenge.
“Tell
us about it”, well I’m not shy about telling anyone
anything when not asked so I couldn’t resist the chance to
tell you something! On the 14th June 2009 I will
be running 5KM for Race For Life. All money raised goes into further
research into cancer. Last year my Grandma was diagnosed as having
cancer. At any age this isn’t what you want to hear but at
85 years old you start saying your Goodbyes. However the doctors
were nothing short of amazing and last month she received the all
clear. So that’s why I’m swapping my high heels for
a pair of running shoes. It’s my way to say thanks to the
medical profession and the hope that more can be done for others.
I will be putting that racing number on my back and running to do
my bit in the fight against cancer. If anyone wants to sponsor me
I will put a form in the office nearer the time, if not, just stop
me if you see me eating chocolate as training is underway! - Frances
(frances@greentop.org).
If you have a story to
tell email James at

Professional
Development
We are in the process
of mapping out how the centre can be better used so that we make
the most of our resources as a social enterprise. An essential part
of this is making sure we provide professional and artistic development
for performers, artists and tutors. So far we have identified through
consultation the following workshops:
- Acrobatics - Marcelo
- Clowning - Fraser Hooper or Mick Barnfather
- Corde Lisse - Michale Finkel or John Paul Zacharrini
- Aerial - Michelle Weaver
- Swinging Trapeze - Mike Wright
- Doubles Trapeze - Barefoot Trapeze Company
If anyone has any comments or further suggestions on this,
email James at: james@greentop.org.
