Welcome
Welcome to the Fourth edition of our regular e-newsletter where we try to keep you up to date on things happening at Greentop Circus...

CIP Show Success

This year's Circus in Performance (CIP) end of course show was a great success. Titled 'Points of Departure' and directed by Jerry Flanagan, the show explored the theme of 'departure' through the student's various acts.

The ten young people on the Greentop course came from all over the UK to learn the foundations of circus in January and studied full time for three months. The learned a wide range of skills and techniques including juggling, tightwire, clowning, dance, acrobatics and voice work.

The show ran for two nights and was sold out each night. Now the course has finished, Greentop is looking at ways to provide career progression support to the students, both in terms of work experience, business suport and advice and further training.

A full review and photos of the show will be published on the greentop website soon.

If anyone is interested in applying for next year's CIP course, they should contact Greentop at administration@greentop.org or call 0114 2448828.

Transform
As part of its commitment to providing professional level training to local artists and performers, Greentop has developed a new programme of professional, artistic development workshops called 'Transform'.

Developed in discussion with centre-users and performers, Greentop has created a summer programme to run mid week which brings to Greentop some of the best directors, teachers and artists in their field. The tutors are:

Marcelo De Ramos - Actobatics and Tumbling
Richard Durnford and Nicky Andrews
- Acrobalance, hand balance and Chinese pole
Rod Laver
- Advanced and Alternative Juggling
Martha Harrison
- Doubles Trapeze
Gerry Flanagan
- Clowning

It is rare for these types of workshops to be run outside of London and a great opportunity to emerse yourself in such a creative and productive environment with like minded artists.

Caroline Veal in the News

Caroline Veal, who recently stepped down as Greentop's chief fund raiser to become a Trustee of the charity, has found herself the focus of local media interest. She was interviewed by the Sheffield Telegraph before the recent CIP show and pictured with some of the students. It is a great article and really does her justice. It can be viewed at the Sheffield Telegraph's website.

Caroline will also be interviewed on BBC Radio Sheffield on the Rony Robinson show on the 11th of May between 2pm and 3pm.

Daytime Training

Now the CIP course has finished for another year, the centre is open for day time training again. Anyone can come and train as long as they are competant and safe to do so - keep in mind this is a professional training environment. The centre is open from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and costs £1 per hour. If you haven't trained at Greentop before there will be a short induction required. Call the office on 0114 2448828 or email administration@greentop.org.

If you have got any stories you would like to include in our newsletter, email them to james@greentop.org.
