Trudi Youth Circus Award

Trudi Patient, has been awarded a School, Care and Voluntary Community Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Sheffield Youth Circus by the Children and Young People's Directorate of Sheffield City Council.

This is how the award ceremony programme describes her:

"Trudi runs The Sheffield Youth Circus at Greentop Circus Centre. Her commitment, enthusiasm and belief in the children makes the difference to many young lives. She uses the power of circus to transform their expectations, abilities, experiences and dreams. The sessions teach children to play, to gain confidence, to learn how to communicate, to take risks and be creative. She has helped many children who have, sometimes significant, behavioural issues to learn to interact with other kids and to become happier, confident and more outgoing."

The Sheffield Youth Circus

The Sheffield Youth Circus has begun again every Tuesday at Greentop Circus and will run until 14th July. The Younger Group will runs from 5.30pm to 6.45pm and the older group runs from 7.15pm to 8.30pm.

After many years of keeping the prices the same, we have had to slightly increase the session prices due to our own costs increasing. We have tried to work out the minimum we have to charge and the new price for Youth Circus is £3.50 per session per child or £36 for the full 12 weeks.

Finally, The friends of Sheffield Youth Circus are currently looking for donations, sponsorship and other fund raising ideas. If you can help then call 0114 2448828 or email information@greentop.org

There will be several of our recent CIP students performing and teaching for this event as well. Charlie will be performing and teaching hula hoop outside the Crucible as wellas stilt walking and Beth and Duncan will be teaching circus skills workshops for the Sheffield Youth Circus in the Winter Gardens.

The street entertainment is happening on Saturday 2nd May and Monday 4th May on Fargate and Tudor Square.

Free circus workshops Sheffield Youth Circus are also available on these two days with the are happening at lunchtime between 12pm and 2pm in the Winter Gardens. So while you are all in town shopping, pop over to the Winter Gardens and have a go at juggling, plate spinning, hula hoop and stilt walking.

Youth circus members are encouraged to come down and demonstrate what they can do and teach other kids and members of the public how to do it themselves.

Calling all Greentop centre users! The pile of lost property in the corner of Greentop is mounting up so we are setting a date for you to claim your belongings, after this we will donate anything to charity that is worth saving and recycle what is left. Collect your stuff by Sunday 31st May.

New ways to get involved & influence Greentop

May and June see the launch of a new set of ways for members of Greentop to get involved. "With the staff team in place, the time is right to find ways for the people who know most about circus to advise the staff and help make Greentop's circus centre and circus events better and better" said Craig Gamble Pugh.

Two new groups will be set up - see below. One will focus on Greentop's circus centre - the fabric of the building, the equipment and facilities. The second will focus on the circus events, activities and educational programme run in the centre and out and about.

Building Action Group

The first meeting of the Building Action Group is on Wednesday 6th May at 4.15pm at Greentop and all are invited. This group is an action group to help the Business and Finance Manager - Frances Joel - identify the work that needs to be done with concerns to the building, technical and equipment in the Greentop Centre. If you would like to be part of this new team, call Frances on 0114 244 8828 and let her know. If you can't make it but have ideas then you can email her at frances@greentop.org.

Circus Action Team

The first meeting of the Circus Action Team will be on Thursday 28th May at 3.30pm to 4.30p at Greentop and any member of Greentop is invited to come that wants to come. This group will be for members with an expertise and specialist knowledge either as performers, tutors, centre users or other volunteers who can advise the Event Manager - James Harkness - about circus activities in the centre, workshops, evening classes, outreach sessions and so on. It is intended that these meetings will be monthly, on the 4th Thursday of each month. See the Greentop Google calendar for more detail:
