Bongo Bolero Chinese Pole
As part of our professional and artistic development programme
'Transform', we ran a 4-day workshop this week in Chinese Pole,
Acrobalance and Hand Balance, taught by Richard Hopkins Durnford
and Nicky Andrews from Bongo Bolero. The workshops were
very well attended on each day and there was a significant number
of people from alternative performance backgrounds such as street
dancers who came for the hand balancing and pole dancers who enjoyed
and got much from the Chinese Pole to incorporate into their own
routines. Workshop participants said of the training:
"I found it very useful, I got hints and tips on techniques
which would have been useful years ago! These workshops are just
what we all need for professional development - well done!"
“I'm still buzzing-and aching! Firstly thanks to Greentop
and to Nicky and Richard for the acrobalance workshops, they were
great. It was impressive how well they pitched it at all different
levels according to ability; they were such patient and intelligent
teachers. It was a brilliant course which taught me new techniques
and built my confidence.”
The Transform programme runs through to September and the next
workshops will be in Alternative and Advanced Juggling with Rod
Laver, Doubles Trapeze with Martha Harrison and Clowning with Gerry
Flanagan. See the website
for further details or call us on 0114 244 8828.
Friends of Sheffield Youth Circus
Success at Peace in the Park! Just to thank people
for their support at Peace in the Park on the 6th June. The weather
managed to brighten up for the event to become a real success, I’m
sure all the parents and children involved will tell you that we
had an amazing day with lots of fun had by all. It brings
the fundraising total for Youth Circus to nearly £500! So
a massive thank you to everyone who came down and helped.
The next fund raising event is the Stannington Carnival on 11th
July and we could really do with more support. We want adults and
kids to help in the following ways:
- Bake cakes and buns
- Donate prizes for the tombola
- Help staff the stall, even if it is for just an hour
-Teach people any circus skills
- Performers of any sort
To help out call us on 0114 244 8828.

at a cost of £7 or £5 for members/students/concessions.

Shows at Greentop
We have two new shows coming to Greentop in July. They
are:
Cabaret Twilight by In the Boat Theatre
Friday 3rd July at 2pm and 7.30pm
Tickets are priced at £10 or £8 concessions,
members and students.
"Cabaret Twilight entertains its audience with dance,
live music provided by the brilliant In the Boat Band, songs and
clever interplay between characters and their projections in film
and image. It is a show that invites its audience to share the same
environment, a place between fantasy and reality."
It has a multi-talented cast of 15 adults with learning disabilities
and 4 artists from Action Space Mobile. The show lasts about an
hour and is suitable for adults and young people aged 15+.
Gentleman Juggling by Rod Laver Wednesday 8th
July at 7.30pm
Tickets are priced at £5 including free entry to
the circus club afterwards
While Rod is at Greentop teaching his own brand of advanced and
alternative juggling techniques, we've convinced him to also put
on a show for us so we can all see him in action. Rod has pioneered
his particular type of juggling called 'Gentleman juggling' that
uses the props a gentleman might have in his drawing room. The show
is happening as a special event at our regular Wednesday evening
Circus Skills Session and your ticket price will also include entry
to the class afterwards.
